Biography

Iliana Sosa is an Austin-based filmmaker raised by Mexican immigrant parents in El Paso, Texas. Her work has been showcased at prestigious festivals and museums such as SXSW, Full Frame, Camden, and the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. Sosa has participated in numerous fellowships and residencies including Firelight Media, Sundance Institute, Berlinale Talents, and the True/False/Catapult Rough Cut Retreat, among others. Her debut feature film, 'Leave,' was nominated for a Gotham Award and won jury awards at SXSW 2022, and is currently streaming on Netflix. Her second feature, a TV documentary titled 'God Save Texas: La Frontera,' is set to have its World Premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and will air on HBO Max later that year. Sosa is also recognized in Filmmaker Magazine's '25 New Faces of Independent Film' in 2020 and DOC NYC's '40 Under 40' in 2021. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America.
