Biography

Ilya Kutik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Northwestern University. He holds a Ph.D. from Stockholm University, awarded in 1994. A renowned poet, Kutik is a founding figure of Russian Metarealism poetry, with his works translated into 19 languages and included in major anthologies of 20th-century Russian poetry. He has authored seven full-length collections of poetry, including 'Pentathlon Senses' and 'Ode Visiting Belosaraisk Spit Sea Azov.' Kutik is also a translator of notable English, American, Polish, and Swedish poets. In addition to his poetic contributions, he has published critical essays on Russian and European poetry spanning the 18th to 21st centuries, with three books of literary criticism to his name. Kutik is recognized for his insightful courses on Russian poetry and 19th-century Russian literature, as well as film courses focusing on Russian montage aesthetics. He is currently working on several book projects exploring Russian poetic thought and Byzantine culture.
