Biography

Imran Rasul is a Professor of Economics at University College London, where he directs the Centre for Microeconomic Analysis at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and co-directs the James M. Cathleen D. Stone Centre for Wealth Concentration, Inequality, and the Economy. His research interests encompass labor economics, development economics, and public economics, with findings published in top-tier academic journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Econometrica. Rasul has previously held the role of managing editor for the Journal of the European Economic Association from 2016 to 2022 and has served as co-editor for the Review of Economic Studies from 2009 to 2017. His accolades include the IZA Young Labour Economist Prize in 2007, CESIfo Distinguished Affiliate Award in 2008, and the ERC-starter grant in 2012. He is notably the 2024 President-elect of the Royal Economic Society and the 2024 Vice-President of the European Economic Association. He was also jointly awarded the Yrjö Jahnsson Award in Economics in 2019 and elected a Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences. In recognition of his services to social sciences, he received the Order of the British Empire on the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2020.
