Biography

In-Jung Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University. His research focuses primarily on the development of neural circuits that mediate visual perception and behavior. Current projects investigate retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), examining their morphological structure and functional development as they respond to specific visual cues such as motion and color. In-Jung is particularly interested in the regenerative abilities of RGC subsets following optic nerve damage. His work employs various methodologies including mouse genetics, bioinformatics, optogenetics, and confocal microscopy to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes. Additionally, he examines the neural circuits related to visual threat-related defensive behaviors, aiming to understand the dysfunctions that arise in fear- and stress-related brain circuitry.
