Biography

Indu Bodala is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southampton. She received her Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore, where she investigated vigilance fluctuations during naturalistic tasks using EEG and eye-tracking modalities, and developed techniques for vigilance enhancement through multisensory stimuli. Following her doctoral studies, she held postdoctoral positions at the NUS School of Computing and the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and social robotics, where she developed a robotic coach aimed at delivering mindfulness practices. Indu has published work on the human factors of trust and attention in interactions with autonomous agents, and her contributions to the field have been recognized in notable media platforms, including the BBC and Raspberry Pi Foundation’s “Hello World” magazine. Recently, her work was shortlisted for the RSJ/KROS Distinguished Interdisciplinary Research Award at the IEEE RO-MAN 2021 conference. She is involved in several research projects and groups, including the Agents Interaction Complexity Centre and Robotics Machine Learning Healthcare Technologies.
