Dr. Indy Burke

Biography

Indy Burke is the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean at Yale School of the Environment, where she specializes in ecosystem ecology with a focus on carbon and nitrogen cycling in dryland ecosystems. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Middlebury College and a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Wyoming. Before her role at Yale, she taught at Colorado State University and the University of Wyoming. Dean Burke's work involves collaborating with graduate students and postdoctoral associates on projects addressing land use management and climatic variability in arid regions. She has received significant funding for her research, including a $20 million grant, and has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and books. In addition to her research, she has served on several committees for the National Research Council, the Environmental Protection Agency, and various advisory panels for national science initiatives. Burke is noted for her strong commitment to fostering interdisciplinary scholarship and engaging in educational leadership both nationally and internationally.
