Biography

Inga Markovits is an internationally renowned expert in comparative law, specializing in family law, children's law, European law, and marital relations. Her research primarily focuses on socialist legal regimes and law reform in Eastern Europe. As the 'Friends Joe Jamail' Regents Chair Emeritus at Texas Law, she applies her extensive knowledge to examine the impact of legal frameworks on society, particularly through the lens of East German law and its historical context. Markovits has contributed significantly to the field, with her notable works including 'Imperfect Justice: East-West German Diary,' which analyzes the transition from a socialist legal system to a reunified Germany. She has held distinguished positions such as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and a Visiting Scholar at the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung in Potsdam, Germany.
