Biography

Inge van der Valk works as an associate professor in the research group of Adolescent Development at Utrecht University. Her research focus is on children of divorce, particularly the impact of parental conflicts and divorce on children and adolescents' adjustment. She teaches both bachelor's and master's courses in Pedagogics, including the research master DaSCA. Van der Valk chairs the examination committee for the bachelor's program in Pedagogics. Her research includes a longitudinal study on the consequences of parental divorce for adolescents and differences between cases of conflicted versus non-conflicted divorces. She has also performed a randomized controlled trial on the effectiveness of KIDS, a preventive intervention program for children facing divorce. Van der Valk is currently involved in several research projects concerning children from divorced or separated families, including a large multidisciplinary project titled 'Where belong?', examining the notion of belonging among children of divorce. Additionally, she collaborates with legal researchers on studies commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and Security into the effects of pilot procedures across various courts in the Netherlands.
