Dr. Inge Wouters

Biography

Inge Wouters obtained a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University and a PhD degree from Utrecht University. She has contributed to more than 130 scientific publications and is a trained environmental epidemiologist with a strong emphasis on the development and implementation of improved exposure assessment models for bio-aerosols in epidemiological studies. Wouters has a longstanding record of researching exposures to biological agents in the workplace and indoor environments. As a principal investigator, she studies environmental exposure assessment focusing on livestock-related air pollution and its impact on neighboring residents' health. Wouters has participated in European Union-funded studies in the field of environmental occupational health, enhancing exposure assessments for bio-aerosols and allergens in the workplace. Currently, she focuses on advancing exposure assessment for viral exposures in indoor air and is involved in projects investigating the impact of ventilation and air cleaning systems on the airborne spread of viruses and biological agents. Additionally, her teaching emphasizes health issues related to bio-aerosol exposures, and she is a member of the international scientific advisory board for the EMIMOD project, which studies methods for determining emissions from diffuse area sources in agricultural settings. Wouters also serves as a treasurer for the Dutch epidemiological society and is part of the Dutch normalization committee for workplace environmental air pollution and European working groups on the standardization of bio-aerosol assessment in workplaces and the general environment.
