Dr. Ingmar Posner

Biography

Driven by an early passion for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, Ingmar Posner studied Electronic Systems Engineering at Aston University before joining Oxford's Department of Engineering Science. His work has garnered attention from national and international press. In 2014, he co-founded Oxbotica, a leading provider of mobile autonomy software solutions. Ingmar leads the Applied Artificial Intelligence Lab (A2I) at Oxford University and serves as Deputy Director of the Oxford Robotics Institute, which he also co-founded in 2016. With a significant track record in designing both shallow and deep machine learning approaches, his research addresses critical challenges in AI and machine learning, aiming to enable robots to operate effectively in complex real-world environments. His work is guided by the vision of creating machines that can continuously improve their performance based on experience. Ingmar's research delves into various intellectual challenges at the core of robot learning, such as machine introspection, perception, decision-making, data-efficient learning, and transfer learning for complex tasks. His intellectual curiosity is firmly rooted in real-world applications of robotics, including autonomous driving, logistics, and manipulation for space exploration.
