Ingrid Leijten holds the chair in Dutch European constitutional law at Tilburg Law School. She studied law and political science at Leiden University and Columbia University in New York. Previously, she worked as an assistant and associate professor at Leiden University and served as a guest professor at Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg. Leijten is a member of the editorial board for 'Uitleg van de Grondwet', a commentary on the Dutch constitution, as well as the 'Nederlands Tijdschrift voor de Mensenrechten', which translates to the Dutch Journal of Human Rights. Her main research interests focus on the changing meaning of fundamental rights in the context of broader developments in comparative constitutional law and the role of rights in relations to state powers, particularly in internationalization and constitutionalization of public law. Currently, she is investigating issues surrounding fundamental rights, trust in government, and the potential development of constitutional review in the Netherlands.
