Dr. Ingrid Schröder

Biography

Ingrid Schröder is a professor at the University of Hamburg, where she leads the Department of Low German Language and Literature. Her academic journey began with a secondary education degree in German and Latin from the University of Göttingen, followed by a doctorate. Professor Schröder has held various positions, including scientific assistant at the University of Hamburg and a full professorship in Low German Philology at the University of Greifswald. Currently, she focuses on linguistic research related to German dialects, specifically Low German. Her significant projects include the 'Middle Low German Grammar' and the 'Middle Low German Dictionary,' demonstrating her dedication to the preservation and study of regional languages. Schröder has published extensively on topics like language history, variation linguistics, and language in urban contexts, enhancing our understanding of dialectal forms in modern German society. She is also involved in various academic committees, contributing to the advancement of Germanic philology and dialectology.
