Biography

Ingrid Steenhuis holds a bachelor's degree in Nursing and a master's degree in Health Sciences. In 2002, she earned her PhD from Maastricht University, focusing on the effectiveness of interventions in company canteens and supermarkets to promote healthy choices. Following her graduation, she worked as a lecturer at Maastricht University, the Open University, and Erasmus University. At Vrije Universiteit, she has served as a senior lecturer and is now a full professor of Prevention in Public Health. Steenhuis is also involved in the continuing education of health professionals and co-founded the Brickhouse Academy and Lifestyle Coach Academy. Her research themes include lifestyle and behavioral change, obesity prevention, weight loss behavior change, relapse prevention, portion size, and combined lifestyle interventions for cancer recovery. Her work is characterized by societal relevance and efforts to make scientific research accessible in the Dutch context. She has authored several books aimed at professionals, with 'Smartsize' winning the Golden Feather award. Steenhuis has received the Societal Impact Award twice. In teaching, she instructs courses on Prevention and Public Health, along with other subjects on behavioral change and has served as program director for the bachelor's and master's programs in Health Sciences.
