Injy Johnstone is a Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford, and an Associate Member of St Antony’s College. She completed her PhD in international environmental trade law, focusing on the exploration of Net-Zero and the development of new legal norms regarding environmental integrity in carbon markets. Her research encompasses a wide range of policies relevant to net zero alignment both domestically and internationally, with a special emphasis on carbon markets. In October 2024, Injy announced the inaugural Stripe Climate Fellows and currently serves as a Technical Review Editor for the UNEP’s 7th Global Environment Outlook Report. She is also a member of several advisory boards, including the UNFCCC’s Article 6.4 Expert Roster, GRI’s technical sub-group on carbon credits, and the GHG Protocol’s Actions Market Instruments Technical Working Group. Additionally, she has contributed to the State CDR Report and the revised Oxford Offsetting Principles as a lead author. Injy has advised a diverse range of entities across public, private, and third sectors, including APEC, the Global Center for Adaptation, UNESCO, and New Zealand’s Ministry for the Environment. She is qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and holds an LLM in Environmental and Energy Law as a Fulbright scholar from the University of Colorado-Boulder, along with an LLB (First Class Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington and a BSc in Physical Geography and Economics from the University of Otago.
