Biography

Intisar Rabb is a Professor of Law and History, and the Faculty Director of the Program in Islamic Law at Harvard Law School. She also holds the title of Susan S. and Kenneth L. Wallach Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Previously, Rabb has served as an Associate Professor at New York University’s Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and at NYU Law School, as well as an Assistant Professor at Boston College Law School. Among her notable roles, she has been a law clerk to Judge Thomas L. Ambro of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and a Temple Bar Fellow in London. Her research focuses on contemporary Islamic law and its historical contexts. She has received substantial support for her work from the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, the Luce Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation, collaborating with various scholars and institutions to enhance access to Islamic legal resources through the SHARIAsource online portal. Rabb has published extensively, including her monograph, "Doubt in Islamic Law" (Cambridge University Press, 2015), edited volumes such as "Law and Tradition in Classical Islamic Thought," and numerous articles addressing topics like Islamic constitutionalism and the early history of the Qur'an.
