Biography

Ïo Valls-Ratés is an Assistant Professor in Language Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark. Valls-Ratés completed a PhD in Oral Communication from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in May 2023. His research focuses on the role of virtual reality in public speaking training, particularly how it can affect voices and gestures, as well as the anxiety associated with public speaking. He teaches public speaking skills with a strong emphasis on training primary and secondary school teachers to recognize the impact these skills have on students' creativity. His efforts aim to introduce enjoyable methods to engage students, fostering their active participation in the community. In February 2023, he began developing a new project called VirtuVoce, which aims to create a virtual reality application designed to empower young students' voices. Valls-Ratés has collaborated on several projects exploring educational tools and resources for learning to speak in public.
