Biography

Ioannis Kampourakis is an Associate Professor at the Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research examines the legal foundations of economic power, drawing from legal theory, political economy, and transnational law. He has a particular interest in how law constitutes markets and the conditions that serve as a vehicle for socio-economic transformation. His current project focuses on the legal and political economy implications of the green transition in relation to EU regulation and the Critical Raw Materials policy shift under the European Green Deal. In 2023, he was awarded a 3-year NWO Veni grant for his research. Ioannis is co-director of the project 'Law and Political Economy in Europe' and serves as the editor of the Law and Political Economy book series published by Cambridge University Press. His research has been published in journals such as the Modern Law Review, Regulation & Governance, Leiden Journal of International Law, European Law Open, and the Yale Journal of International Law. Prior to joining Erasmus, Ioannis held postdoctoral fellowships at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Oxford and the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University. He has also held visiting positions at several institutions, including the University of Glasgow, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, and the University of Johannesburg.
