Dr. Ioannis Kousis

Biography

Ioannis Kousis is a Research Fellow at the School of Built Environment, University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network scholarship to pursue his PhD in Energy Sustainable Development at the University of Perugia in Italy, under the supervision of Professor Anna Laura Pisello. He holds a Master's Diploma in Environmental Applied Physics and a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. His research focuses on improving energy performance, environmental quality, and sustainability within the built environment. His expertise includes urban climate mitigation and adaptation, passive cooling techniques, advanced building materials, and nature-based solutions to combat urban overheating. In addition to his academic career, Ioannis has significant industry experience, having served as a scientific consultant in bioclimatic design at DLS_Archigraf Architectural Office in Athens, Greece. He leads and contributes to laboratory and field monitoring campaigns and conducts multi-scale simulations to evaluate and optimize building and urban-scale climate resilience performance.
