Biography

Ira Wagman is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University, with over twenty years of experience in academia. He holds a PhD in Communication Studies from McGill University in Montreal. Wagman has held various visiting appointments, including the Fulbright Chair in Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California and Erasmus Mundus Visiting Professorship positions at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Aarhus University, and the University of Amsterdam. He has also been a guest professor at institutions such as SUNY-Plattsburgh, the University of Freiburg, and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. His teaching and research interests are broad and cover areas including media history, communication theory, and the entertainment industries, with a particular focus on how media technologies affect society. Currently, he is researching the historical impact of the Catholic Church on the development of television in Quebec during the 1950s and 1960s, as well as ethical frameworks for managing online personal memory in relation to media policy. Wagman is also actively involved in supervising graduate students in their research.
