Irene de Lázaro is an Assistant Professor at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, specializing in Biomedical Engineering. She leads the NanoBioEngineering Tissue Reprogramming Regeneration laboratory, focusing on understanding how genetic, biochemical, and mechanical signals impact cell plasticity and function. Her research aims to combine nanomedicine and bioengineering strategies to develop therapeutic interventions that modulate cell fate, enabling tissue regeneration and enhancing cellular function, particularly in the context of immunotherapies. Irene's academic journey includes a PharmD from the University of Alcalá in Spain, an MSc in Drug Delivery from University College London, and a PhD in Regenerative Medicine from the same institution. She also pursued postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Manchester and at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. As a recognized leader, she has served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Gordon Research Seminar on Tissue Repair and Regeneration. In addition, she is a founding member and has held director roles within the Society of Spanish Researchers in the UK. Irene was awarded the “La Caixa” Postgraduate Fellowship and has received national awards for excellence in academic performance from the Spanish Ministry of Education.
