Dr. Irene Neverla

Biography

Irene Neverla is a professor of journalism and communication science at the University of Hamburg. Her research focuses on journalism studies, visual communication, and reception research. She teaches primarily in the Master's program 'Journalism and Communication Science' and the Erasmus Mundus Master's 'Journalism, Media Communication'. Over the years, Neverla has held various academic roles in institutions such as Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, University of Salzburg, and multiple universities worldwide. She served as a principal investigator in the Excellence Cluster 'Integrated Climate System Analysis Prediction' and has engaged in significant EU-funded research projects on media, conflict, and democratization. Notably, she has worked extensively on projects exploring the perception of climate change in the media and its impact on public understanding. Her contributions include numerous publications and active involvement in professional associations, where she addresses the intersection of media, society, and ethical journalism practices.
