Irina Grigorieva is a professor in the Physics Department at the University of Manchester, where she leads an experimental research program focusing on the electronic properties of layered two-dimensional materials and heterostructures. Since joining the University in 2001, she has built an extensive research portfolio that includes exploring the physics of vortices in superconductors, the electronic properties of graphene derivatives, and the magnetic properties and applications of graphene in spintronic devices. Her recent work has centered on unconventional superconductivity, the materials with nontrivial topology, and tuning the properties of two-dimensional materials through ion intercalation. In 2017, she was recognized as a highly cited researcher in physics, ranking in the top 1% worldwide in terms of citations in her research field. Grigorieva is also deeply involved in postgraduate education, serving as the founding director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Science Applications of Graphene Related Nanomaterials (Graphene NOWNANO) and the new Centre for Doctoral Training in 2D Materials (2DMoT), welcoming a cohort of PhD students in September 2025.
