Irina Grigorieva is a professor of Physics at the University of Manchester since 2001. She completed her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics in 1989 at the Institute of Solid State Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences. Her research primarily focuses on the electronic properties of layered two-dimensional materials and heterostructures. She has worked extensively on a diverse range of topics, including the physics of vortices in superconductors, electronic properties of graphene derivatives, and the magnetic properties of graphene for applications in spintronic devices. Currently, her research includes unconventional superconductivity and materials with nontrivial topology in atomically thin superconductors. Grigorieva has been recognized as a 'highly cited researcher' in physics in 2017, ranking in the top 1% worldwide based on citations in her research field. She is also actively involved in postgraduate education, serving as the founding director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Science Applications of Graphene-Related Nanomaterials (Graphene NOWNANO) and the upcoming Centre for Doctoral Training in 2D Materials (2DMoT).
