Irina R. Troconis is an Assistant Professor in Latin American Studies within the Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University. She holds a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures from New York University and an MPhil in Latin American Studies from the University of Cambridge, UK. Her research is deeply engaged with Venezuelan Studies, focusing on Memory Studies, Politics of Performance, Affect Theory, Visual Culture, Material Culture, and Digital Humanities. Troconis is the co-organizer of an online conversation series titled (Re)thinking Venezuela, and her book, 'Necromantic State: Spectral Remains Afterglow Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution,' published by Duke University Press in 2025, analyzes the memory narratives surrounding Hugo Chávez's decade after his death. She is involved in examining recent cultural productions connecting the Venezuelan diaspora with themes of nostalgia and loss, while also investigating how new technologies affect contemporary memory narratives and cultural practices in Latin America. Additionally, she serves as a member of the CIVIC Advisory Board and is part of the core faculty in the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Steering Committee.
