Biography

Iris Groen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam’s Informatics Institute. She obtained her PhD from the University of Amsterdam's Department of Brain and Cognition in the Psychology Research Institute, where she worked under the supervision of notable researchers Steven Scholte, Sennay Ghebreab, and Victor Lamme. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Groen conducted postdoctoral research at the United States National Institute of Mental Health with Chris Baker and at New York University with Jonathan Winawer. Her current research is interdisciplinary, focusing on the intersection of computer vision and cognitive neuroscience. She aims to understand naturalistic human perception through the use of computational models that predict how the human brain interprets visual stimuli. This research is supported by the VENI grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), utilizing deep neural network models to analyze how humans extract information about action affordances from their visual environment.
