Dr. Iris Wallenburg

Biography

Iris Wallenburg is an associate professor at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is a trained nurse and health policy scientist, having obtained her PhD from Free University of Amsterdam with research focused on the modernization of medical training. Her research interests include healthcare transition practices, utilizing a practice-based, often ethnographic, action-oriented research approach, and examining local practices such as the introduction of new technologies and healthcare demands specific to geographical areas. Wallenburg's work critically addresses patient experiences and professional issues surrounding healthcare policies, with a specific focus on governance arrangements relevant to technology application and the use of quantified data such as performance indicators. In 2021, she became involved with the Erasmus Initiative Social Impact Artificial Intelligence, exploring how artificial intelligence can transform traditional practices in healthcare governance. Additionally, she leads national action-based research projects concerning healthcare staffing employment in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and various professional associations.
