Dr. Irit Samet

Biography

Irit Samet is a Professor of Law at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London, where she serves as Course Convenor for the core module Equity & Trusts. Her research focuses on the theory of equity and trust law, along with the philosophy of private law, emphasizing the intersection of private law and morality. Samet is the author of 'Equity: Conscience Goes to Market' (OUP, 2018) and co-editor of several influential volumes, including 'Philosophical Foundations of Law Equity' (OUP, 2020) and 'Philosophical Foundations of Express Trust' (OUP, 2023). Her scholarly contributions have been extensively published in leading journals such as the Modern Law Review and the Cambridge Law Journal, and her work has been widely cited in scholarly and judicial contexts. Prior to her tenure at King’s College London, she held lecturing positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Essex and has conducted research as a visiting scholar at institutions including Columbia University and UNSW Sydney. She holds a D.Phil from Oxford University and an LLB as well as a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Additionally, she is a member of the editorial board for Jurisprudence and the Oxford Theory of Private Law book series, where she continues to contribute to discussions on the moral theory of law and equity.
