Biography

Iryna Dronova received her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley, as well as her MS in Natural Resources/Terrestrial Ecology from the University of Michigan, and a BS in Ecology from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ukraine. Her research focuses on the application of vegetation landscape ecology, remote sensing, and geographic information systems (GIS) to study ecosystem properties and changes in areas such as the grasslands of Ukraine, forests in northern Michigan, and wetland biodiversity hotspots in California and China. Dronova’s current work predominantly investigates wetland systems within urbanizing landscapes in California and worldwide. Her specializations include landscape ecosystem ecology, urbanization, GIS, spatial analysis, wetland restoration, and the impact of invasive species. Through her research, she aims to inform sustainable and multi-functional landscape designs and decision-making in environmental planning. She actively uses remote sensing and field ecological methods to analyze various environmental changes and develop sustainable management strategies for wetlands, providing significant insights into ecosystem services, urban environments, and climate resilience.
