Biography

Isaac Burt is an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education, holding a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida. With over twenty years of experience, Burt has worked in schools, mental health agencies, and community centers, providing counseling to international populations across the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, and Bosnia, as well as clients born in the United States, particularly Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and LGBTQ+ individuals. He focuses on integrating scientific principles of Africana counseling with neuroscience concepts such as flow state, multiculturalism, group work, and social justice for historically marginalized populations. Burt has authored numerous publications aimed at encouraging counselor educators and counselors to rethink policies and approaches for providing therapy to diverse populations, including thirty-three peer-reviewed publications in flagship journals of counselor education and has delivered sixty presentations at both international and national levels.
