Biography

Isaac Garcia Bosch is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Girona in 2011, following a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Inorganic Chemistry and Chemistry, respectively, from the same institution. His research focuses on bio-inspired catalysts, practical organic synthesis, and 3D metal complexes, particularly those utilizing first-row transition metals under environmentally benign conditions. His lab uses insights from metalloenzymes to develop metal complexes that can catalyze organic transformations while using cheap reagents such as copper and green oxidants like O2 and H2O2. Projects in his lab include the development of functional synthetic models of copper-dependent monooxygenases and the design of copper complexes with tunable hydrogen-bonding donors. He has published multiple papers in prestigious journals, including work on mononuclear copper complexes and their applications in organic synthesis. He is affiliated with the NIH and NSF for his research projects.
