Dr. Isaac Hoff

Biography

Isaac Hoff joined the University of Glasgow in September 2022, having held teaching roles at De Montfort University, Birmingham City University, and the University of Northampton, where he taught a variety of Media Studies and Sociology courses. He completed his PhD at the University of Leicester from 2017 to 2021, during which he worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at CAMEo, the university's research institute focused on Cultural Media Economies. His thesis was an ethnography on how twelve white men navigated transitions to adulthood within the leisure context of austerity in the UK, exploring the articulation of masculinities and their intersection with class and race. At Glasgow, he collaborates with colleagues in the Glasgow University Media Group (GUMG) on research concerning the media and the Cost-of-Living Crisis in the UK, while also developing an interest in the concept of crisis more broadly. Hoff conducts research on various topics, including the dynamics of five-a-side football and masculinities in relation to the Cost-of-Living Crisis in Glasgow.
