Dr. Isaac Odoom

Biography

Isaac Odoom is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, specializing in International Relations and Development with a regional focus on Africa and China. His research interests encompass African Politics, Governance, Africa-China relations, South-South cooperation, and the political economy of development. Dr. Odoom's work centers on African agency in shaping external partnerships, specifically examining Chinese engagement in infrastructure, energy, and digital sectors. His current research project investigates the implications of Chinese investment in Ghana's digital sector as part of China's Digital Silk Road initiative. Odoom is also engaged in decolonizing knowledge in higher education and addressing academic dependency in knowledge production. His scholarship has been published in prestigious journals, and he serves on the board of the Chinese Africa/Africans China Research Network. Before joining Carleton in 2022, Dr. Odoom taught at several universities, including the University of Alberta and Grant MacEwan University. His contributions to the field include notable publications focusing on Ghana-China relations and the role of African agency in international relations.
