Biography

Isabel Grant is a Professor at the Peter Allard School of Law, specializing in criminal law. She holds a BA from the University of Toronto, an LLB from Dalhousie University, and an LLM from Yale Law School. Isabel completed a clerkship at the Supreme Court of Canada with Mr. Justice Estey in 1986-87. Her extensive publication record covers issues related to violence against women, sexual assault, criminal harassment, and homicide. Currently, she is engaged in a SSHRC-funded project examining the impact of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on sexual assault law, in collaboration with Professor Janine Benedet. In addition to her research, she teaches courses in criminal law, homicide, sentencing, and mental health law, and has worked with various disability and feminist organizations, contributing to over 20 interventions in the Supreme Court of Canada and appellate courts. Isabel is also a member of the Bar in British Columbia and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
