Biography

Isabel Molina-Guzmán is a Professor in the Department of Latina/Latino Studies and the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. She is also a faculty affiliate with the Institute of Communication Research, Gender & Women’s Studies, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Molina-Guzmán served as Chair for the Department of Latina/Latino Studies from 2007 to 2008 and again from 2009 to 2012. Currently, she holds the positions of Faculty Director for Diversity Inclusion in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Faculty Director for the Sloan University Center for Exemplary Mentoring. Her research interests include ethnoracial identity, gender and sexuality, media and journalism studies, and discourse analysis. Molina-Guzmán's work critically examines the interplay between ethnoracial, gender, and sexual identities and media discourses, particularly regarding issues of reproductive inequality. She is the author of several influential works, including 'Dangerous Curves: Latina Bodies in Media' (NYU Press, 2010) and 'Latinas and Latinos on Television: Colorblind Comedy in the Postracial Network Era' (University of Arizona Press, 2018). Her writings have been featured in numerous academic journals such as Latino Studies, Journalism, Popular Communication, and Critical Studies in Media Communication.
