Biography

Isabelle Aubert is a Professor at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, where she holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Brain Repair and Regeneration. With a PhD in Neurosciences from McGill University, her doctoral research focused on the plasticity of cholinergic systems in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, as well as normal brain development and aging. Subsequently, she completed her post-doctoral training as a Medical Research Council Fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego, California, where she specialized in gene therapy and neurotrophins for axonal regeneration. Dr. Aubert leads the Brain Repair Group at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, where her research aims to develop therapies to halt neurodegeneration and promote regeneration in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. Her program investigates therapeutic approaches including drug and gene therapies to protect brain health and function, and explores innovative methods like transcranial focused ultrasound to enhance treatment delivery. She has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications and ongoing collaborations with students and fellow researchers.
