Biography

Isabelle Catelas is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa. She also holds cross-appointments in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine. After obtaining her Diplôme d'Ingénieur from UTC, France, she completed her MASc at Polytechnique Montréal and her PhD at McGill University. Since joining the University of Ottawa in 2008, she has transitioned from the biotechnology industry to academia. Her research is primarily focused on understanding the mechanisms behind hip implant failure and developing new bone substitutes. Dr. Catelas collaborates closely with the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ottawa Hospital, contributing to a growing collection of clinical samples from patients undergoing hip implant revision surgery.
