Dr. Isabelle Laurin

Biography

For over 15 years, I have worked on research projects in the field of early childhood that concern both children and their parents, as well as the professionals, organizations offering services, and intersectoral action. My recent work includes participatory action research with parents and professionals from the Rond-Point center, a perinatal and family center in the Centre-Sud neighborhood of Montreal. I have also been the principal investigator of the Montreal component of the Quebec Survey on Preschool Pathways of Kindergarten Children, which aimed to describe the diversity of preschool educational pathways of Montreal children based on their socioeconomic status and to show the benefits of attending certain types of educational services on child development. Additionally, I conducted an implementation evaluation of collaboration between community organizations focused on welcoming and integrating newcomers and the local CLSCs, in the context of parent workshops on parenting in an immigration context. I am currently leading an exploratory study on financial, structural, and human barriers that may prevent communities from presenting projects to develop early childhood centers in disadvantaged CLSC areas of Montreal.
