Isha Gupta joined the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton as a Lecturer in September 2024. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and her Master's in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science. Isha's research interests focus on advanced coatings and in-situ oxide films that protect structural materials, such as nickel superalloys and refractory metals, from thermal environmental degradation. Her work integrates physics-based modeling, material failure analysis, and novel experiments to guide the design of high-performance oxidation-resistant alloys for next-generation aerospace technologies. Isha is also passionate about educating future Aerospace and Mechanical Engineers, having taught courses in Solid Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, and Materials Failure at the University of Michigan, and guest lectured on Computational Thermomechanics and Fracture Mechanics at MIT. She is motivated to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, serving as a mentor to students in MIT’s Women Technology Program and MIT’s Summer Research Program for Underrepresented Minorities.
