Biography

Ismael Foroughi is an adjunct professor in the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). His research focuses on geodetic science, geoid determination, spatial data analysis, modernizing height systems, and modeling precise gravity field observations. Dr. Foroughi earned a BSc in Geomatics Engineering (2011) and an MSc (2014) from the University of Tehran, followed by a PhD in Geodesy at UNB in 2019. His doctoral research advanced methods in geoid determination and modernized geodetic reference systems. Dr. Foroughi has a diverse background, having worked as an instructor, geospatial data scientist, geodetic engineer, and consultant, collaborating with academic institutions, private companies, and government agencies. He actively supervises graduate students, leads research projects, and participates in international geodetic initiatives. His work has garnered competitive research grants and resulted in numerous publications in leading scientific journals. Dr. Foroughi is currently the President of the Canadian Geophysical Union - Geodesy Section (2023–2025) and serves as the Canadian national delegate to the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) (2022–2025). He chairs the IAG Joint Working Group 2.2.1, facilitating contributions to geodetic research at an international level.
