Biography

Issam Abu-Mahfouz joined Penn State Harrisburg in 1999 as a faculty member in the field of mechanical engineering within the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology. He has a robust teaching history, having taught various courses including computer-aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), automatic controls, mechatronics, instrumentation, fluid power, design manufacturability, dynamics, vibrations, optimization, energy systems, and smart systems. His research interests span multiple areas like machine condition monitoring, nonlinear vibrations, chaotic dynamics, machinery noise and vibration isolation, and the application of artificial intelligence in manufacturing processes. Dr. Abu-Mahfouz is also actively involved in providing engineering consulting services, focusing on designing and developing new products, vibration and noise isolation, and machinery failure prevention. He is a licensed professional engineer and serves as an advisor for the ASME Student Club. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Vibration Institute (VI), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM).
