Biography

Professor Issy Reading is the Director of the Research Design Service South Central and a Professorial Fellow in Medical Statistics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton. He completed his MSc in Statistics Applications to Medicine with Distinction at Southampton University in 1997 and earned his PhD in 2003, focusing on the methodology and application of cluster analysis techniques in the classification of common musculoskeletal disorders such as neck and arm pain. With over 10 years of experience at the Medical Research Council Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit in Southampton, Professor Reading has primarily worked on the design and analysis of epidemiological studies. He is actively involved in teaching epidemiology to MSc statistics students and supervises end-year projects. Additionally, he serves as a statistical reviewer for various medical journals. Professor Reading collaborates on a wide range of clinical trials in health research, with primary interests in common musculoskeletal conditions and surgical trials of obstetric interventions. He is also a member of several Trial Steering Committees and Data Monitoring Committees, and is part of the NIHR Programme Grants Applied Research subcommittee.
