Biography

Istvan Furo obtained his doctorate in physics from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary. He moved to Sweden in 1987 as a postdoctoral researcher and has been based there since. Furo has held positions at Lund University as an Assistant Lecturer before joining KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 1994 as a Lecturer and later became a Professor of Physical Chemistry in 2006. He has served in various administrative roles, including as the head of the Department of Chemistry since 2018 and has also been a part-time Principal Scientist at GE Healthcare/Cytiva. His research interests primarily revolve around NMR spectroscopy and its applications in studying different materials and processes such as nanocarbon dispersions, ionic behavior in liquids and solids, cellulose, and various molecular phenomena in porous systems. Furo believes that the purpose of universities is to teach with high ambition and values collaboration with students and researchers, helping guide doctoral candidates.
