Biography

István Pelczer, originally from Hungary, received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Szeged. He has worked on NMR projects throughout his academic career, initially leading a pharmaceutical research facility in Budapest. He was a visiting scientist with noted researchers including Jeremy Sanders at Cambridge University, Ad Bax at the NIH in Bethesda, and Heinz Rüterjans in Frankfurt. In 1989, he joined Syracuse University on an invitation from George Levy, where he spent eight years developing multidimensional experimental methods for NMR studies of biomolecules and was promoted to Research Assistant Professor. He later became an Application Scientist at New Methods Research, Inc. (NMRi), focusing on pioneering multidimensional NMR data processing technology. In 1996, Pelczer was recruited by Princeton University, where he is currently a Lecturer and Director of the NMR Facility in the Department of Chemistry, overseeing a world-class collection of NMR technology. He has extensive experience in liquid state NMR applications and method development for both small and large molecules. He is a co-author of over one hundred peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and has organized numerous meetings and events. His current research interests include the analysis of mixtures through NMR and multivariate statistics, with applications in metabolomics and biological materials analysis.
