Biography

Italo M. Brown, MD MPH, is a board-certified Emergency Physician and Clinical Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he leads the Health Equity & Social Justice Curriculum Thread. He is deeply involved in social medicine and health equity initiatives, currently serving as the Chief Impact Officer for T.R.A.P. Medicine, a wellness initiative that utilizes barbershops to promote health among Black men and boys. As a board member of the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, Dr. Brown advocates for health reforms including support for the Affordable Care Act and Medicare/Medicaid. Trained in some of the busiest emergency rooms in the country at Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center, he has established himself as a thought leader in health equity, recognized by the National Minority Quality Forum as one of the 40 Leaders in Minority Health in 2017. An avid writer, Dr. Brown has contributed to outlets including ABC News, NPR, GQ, Men's Fitness, and Bloomberg, focusing on health equity and wellness topics. He has also been selected to participate in Health Equity Leaders Roundtable initiatives by the White House Office of Public Engagement, representing a commitment to improving access to care.
