Biography

Itziar Rodríguez de Rivera received her Ph.D. in Spanish from Harvard University. She also holds an M.A. in Spanish from the University at Albany, SUNY, and a B.A. in English from Universidad Complutense in Madrid. Her research and teaching interests focus on modern and contemporary Spanish peninsular literature and culture, with an emphasis on gender and sexuality. She has taught various courses in Spanish peninsular literature and cinema. Currently, she is working on a book manuscript titled 'Paper Women: Figures of ‘Lesbian’ Spanish Literature and Culture 1868-1936', which examines the figure of the lesbian in late 19th century and early 20th century Spain. Her research areas include modern and contemporary Spanish peninsular literature, popular literature, cultural studies, gender and sexuality, intersections of medical and sex discourses, Iberian literatures, Spanish film, and critical theory.
