Biography

Ivan Gusarov is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at New York University. His research focuses on nitric oxide synthesis in bacteria, where he has discovered enzymes in gram-positive bacteria that are highly homologous to eukaryotic nitric oxide synthases. His studies have demonstrated how these enzymes produce physiological conditions that protect bacteria from oxidative stress. Currently, he is investigating the interactions between bacteria, specifically Staphylococci Bacilli, and Caenorhabditis elegans, aiming to reveal the role of bacteria in nematode colonization. Gusarov holds a PhD in Genetics from Moscow and has contributed significantly to the understanding of bacterial mechanisms related to health and disease.
