Dr. Ivana Drobnjak

Biography

Professor of Computational Healthcare and Director of the Undergraduate Program in the Department of Computer Science at University College London, Ivana Drobnjak focuses on developing mathematical computational methods with applications in medicine and healthcare. Her research career began at the University of Oxford where she obtained her Masters degree in Mathematical Modelling and Computation and her DPhil in Computational Modelling of Medical Imaging. She has worked extensively on computational AI modeling in medical applications, medical imaging, microstructure imaging, and digital health. Ivana's goal is to translate methodologies that improve health and well-being, particularly emphasizing ethical and human-aligned AI technologies. She is dedicated to minimizing bias and energy expenditure in AI systems while enhancing transparency and explainability. As a member of the UNESCO Chair on AI, she collaborates with various companies and advocates for increasing women's representation in technology, where currently only 22% of AI teams are female and merely 10% occupy leadership positions. Ivana believes that diverse teams can create systems that align with human values, making AI a core aspect of societal development.
