Biography

Ivana Rentsch is a Professor of Historical Musicology at the University of Hamburg. She holds a degree in musicology, media studies, and linguistics from the University of Zurich. Between 2000 and 2005, she served as a research assistant at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Bern, where she completed her doctorate in 2004 with a dissertation on Bohuslav Martinů's operas from the interwar period. Rentsch received a research fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation for a project at the universities of Graz and Salzburg. From 2006 to 2013, she worked as a (senior) assistant at the Musicology Institute of the University of Zurich, where she habilitated in 2010 with a thesis on the significance of dance for instrumental music and music theory in the early modern period. She has held teaching positions at various universities, including Basel, Bern, Fribourg, and Graz. Rentsch has been a professor since 2013 and is involved in numerous scholarly activities, including editorial roles for professional publications. She is a member of various academic advisory boards and research groups, contributing significantly to the field of musicology, especially regarding early modern sacred intermediality.
