Ivano Caponigro received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from UCLA. His research interests focus on the study of how languages convey meaning, particularly through combinations of words or smaller units in sentences. As a linguist, he is particularly interested in cross-linguistic formal semantics and the interfaces between formal pragmatics and syntax. He has conducted extensive collaborative work on varieties of wh-constructions and relative clauses in Indo-European languages, Mesoamerican languages, American Sign Language (ASL), and Adyghe, which is a Northwest Caucasian language. Additionally, he co-leads the Syntax Semantics Babble, a weekly informal discussion group that explores the theoretical and experimental aspects of syntax, semantics, and related areas such as interfaces, morphology, and the philosophy of language.
