Dr. Ivo Blom

Biography

Ivo Blom is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts & Culture at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His academic expertise encompasses film history, film theory, and various intermedial studies across the arts, including film’s intersection with architecture, graphic design, and museum studies. Blom is actively involved in significant research projects, such as 'Museum Dreams: Silent Antiquity Films' in collaboration with the British National Film Archive. He has published extensively, including a monograph titled 'Quo vadis?, Cabiria: Early Italian Cinema’s Appropriation of Art and Archaeology', which explores the cultural implications of early cinema with an emphasis on visual arts. His previous work includes a multitude of articles and conference papers that have been recognized in academic circles, focusing on themes like iconoclasm and comparative arts. Blom has contributed to curatorial projects, such as the exhibition 'Enfin le cinéma!' at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, and has been involved in various film research initiatives in Europe.
